LOTTERY SCAM

On October 21, 2008 the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office received information a citizen received a message on her answering machine informing her that she had won the Las Vegas Mega Bucks Lottery. The message left a telephone number for her to call to claim her winnings. The residence called that number and spoke with a person who informed her she had won $1,800,000.00. The person further informed her that she would have to send $400 by US Mail or $390 via UPS, and once they received that money, her winnings would be sent by check. The resident began to ask questions to confirm the winnings and the person on the other end stated they did not have the answers to her questions.

The Ottawa County Sheriffs Office warns residents to be cautious about any calls of this nature you may receive. You should never send money to someone to claim a prize and never give anyone your personal information, such as name, address social security number of date of birth.
