On Wednesday August 29, 2007 Ottawa County Sheriff detectives arrested Cory Haeft, a nineteen year old from Williston, Ohio on felony warrants from Northwood Police for receiving stolen property and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer. Those charges were filed in connection with a stolen vehicle and pursuit handled by that agency. Ottawa County Detectives then interviewed Mr. Haeft, as he was a suspect in a number of stolen vehicles and entries to vehicles in the Williston area.
During the interview Mr. Haeft was cooperative and confessed to taking at least 10 vehicles from various locations in western Ottawa County and entering a number of cars to take money from those vehicles. Most of those vehicles were stolen during the night, driven around the area and then returned to the owners property before they were discovered missing. The case is still under investigation. The investigation will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for charges upon its completion. Mr. Haeft is currently being held under a $20,000 bond at the Wood County Detention Facility .
