On February 7, 2005 Ottawa County Sheriff Office Detective Steve Levorchick and Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Mark W. Haeft, age 44, of West Toledo Street, Williston, Ohio. Haeft has been charged with the November 26, 2004 Bank Robbery at the Genoa Banking Company branch located at 24950 West State Route 51, Millbury, Ohio.
Leads in this case developed after a vehicle matching the description of that used in the robbery was taken to Terry’s Towing in Williston for repair work. The owner of that business felt this might have been the vehicle involved. Mr. Haeft was linked to that vehicle and further information was developed. Laboratory examination of other evidence also linked Mr. Haeft to the robbery.
Mark Haeft is currently under indictment in Ottawa County for Burglary, a felony of the second degree, and Theft of a Credit Card, a felony of the fifth degree. He was currently out on bond on those charges. He is also under indictment in Wood County for drug related charges.
Mark Haeft is currently in the Ottawa County Detention Facility on federal bank robbery charges. He will make a future appearance in the federal court system in the near future.

On Friday, November 26, 2004 at 3:41PM the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office received a hold-up alarm from the Genoa Banking Company, 24950 West State Route 51, Millbury, Ohio. The bank branch is located at the intersection of State Route 51 at Fostoria Road, at the Ottawa / Wood County line. A few moments later Sheriffs dispatchers were able to confirm a robbery had occurred.
The robber entered the front door at the bank and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The note passed by the robber indicated he was armed but no weapon was seen. The teller gave the robber money from her drawer. The robber then immediately fled the bank.
The robber is described as a white male, in his late twenties or early thirties, short height and of medium build. He was wearing a black cloth material over his face and black gloves. Witnesses saw him flee the scene in a red vehicle, described as possibly an Oldsmobile Cutlass. A partial license plate of “DUP” was seen on the vehicle as it fled. The rest of the license plate numbers appeared obscured with mud or grease. The vehicle was last seen traveling north on Fostoria Road.
No one was hurt during the robbery. The amount of money taken during the robbery is not being released.
Two agents from the FBI office in Toledo responded to the scene. A crime scene agent from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation was called to process the scene for potential evidence.
The security video tape was taken by detectives and will be analyzed to see if it reveals further information.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office at 419-734-4404.
