Sheriff Bratton Announces Promotions and New Hire

    On Tuesday, March 3, 2009 Sheriff Bratton announced the following promotions and new hire in the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office:

Deputy John Carpenter

    Deputy John Carpenter is being promoted from the Corrections Division to the Patrol Division.

    Deputy Carpenter began his career with the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office in April of 2006 in the Corrections Division. He is a graduate of Port Clinton High School and has an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement Training and Police Administration from Terra Community College. He completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in April of 2007.

    Deputy Carpenter will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Deputy Gary Karr later this month.

Deputy Kevin Meek

    Deputy Kevin Meek is being promoted from the Patrol Division to the Detective Bureau. Deputy Meek will fill the vacancy created by Detective Joe Vidal who has chosen to return to the Patrol Division.

    Deputy Meek began his career with the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office in July of 1991 in the Corrections Division. In January of 2000 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and in February of 2001 he was promoted to Patrol Deputy.

    Deputy Meek is a graduate of Oak Harbor High School and has an Associated Degree from Terra Community College in Welding Technologies. He completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in March of 1992.

    Deputy Meek serves as a Field Training Officer for new patrol deputies and is a member of the Sheriffs Office Special Response Team.

Ryan Hayes

Ryan Hayes has been hired as a Corrections Deputy to fill the vacancy created by the promotion of Deputy Carpenter. Ryan will start his new duties with the Sheriffs Office on March 16, 2009.

Ryan is a graduate of Oak Harbor High School and completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Terra Community College.

Ryan has been a full time patrolman with the Oak Harbor Police Department since 2003 and served three years as a part time officer with the Elmore Police Department.
