Concerns about Letter from

Ohio Department of Administrative Services / Debix

The Ottawa County Sheriffs Office has received calls concerning a letter that some residents have received from the Ohio Department of Administrative Services. That letter deals with the theft of the computer back-up device stolen some time ago.

The following information was received through official communications this morning:

Last week the Ohio Department of Administrative Services mailed notification to approximately 700,000 Ohio citizens that some of their personal data was contained on a computer backup tape that had been stolen on June 10. The letter offers those citizens free credit protection service through Debix.

There have been some calls from citizens concerned about whether the letters are bona fide State of Ohio mailings. If your department receives any inquiries from concerned citizens, please assure them that the letter is genuine and advise them to follow the instructions contained in the letter.

The above information came directly from Henry Guzman, the Director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

A copy of the letter and attached form may be seen by clicking on the link below.
