Ottawa County Sheriffs Office Receives Marine Patrol Grant

On May 6, 2009 the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office received notification from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft,  that we have received $28,818 for funding for our 2009 Marine Patrol Program.

Those funds, in addition to donations of $6,000 each by the Catawba Island Township and Danbury Township Trustees, will provide monies to operate our Marine Patrol Program for 2009. Those funds pay for salaries, fuel and supplies to operate the program.

The program is further supported by Mr. Bob Brown, the owner of Northwest Catawba Marina, who donates dockage each year for our Marine Patrol vessel and a second vessel used the Sheriffs Office Underwater Response Team.

This is the thirteenth year the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office has participated in the Division of Watercraft Marine Patrol Program. Twelve deputies have received training to be certified marine patrol officers. Marine patrols are scheduled every weekend throughout the summer, holiday weekends and other times throughout the year. Our goal is to make Lake Erie and the waters of Ottawa County a safer and more enjoyable experience for all.
