Ottawa County Sheriffs Office Recognizes Support of Local Businesses
On Tuesday, May 22, 207 the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office recognized the continued support and contributions of two local businessmen. The event took place during the Sheriffs Office monthly meeting with the Ottawa County Commissioners.
The first to be recognized is Mr. Bob Brown, owner of the Northwest Catawba Marina located on Catawba Island. Mr. Brown has been a strong and long time supporter of the Sheriffs Marine Patrol Program and our Underwater Response Team. For many years Mr. Brown has donated dock space for the marine patrol boat and underwater response team boat, provided inside winter storage for the marine patrol boat, lifting the boats in and out of the water when needed and reduced prices for fuel and other services.
The Ottawa County Sheriffs Office Marine Patrol is partially funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft. Additional funds are provided by the Catawba Island and Danbury Township Trustees. During the presentation Chief Deputy Riedmaier noted that because of the generous donations by Mr. Brown, estimated to be several thousand dollars each year, almost all the monies received for the marine patrol can be used for their intended purposes, such as patrol operations, search and rescue, education and promoting safety on the waters in Ottawa County.
The second to be recognized was Mr. Ron Gecsi, owner of Great Lakes Communications Sales located on East Harbor Road in Portage Township. Mr. Gecsi recently donated a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria police vehicle, fully equipped with a light bar, siren and other equipment, to the Sheriffs Office Reserve Deputies. In addition the vehicle is equipped with a state of the art digital camera system for recording activity, capturing not only what occurs in front of the vehicle but also anyone in the rear seat. The vehicle had been used by Mr. Gecsi and his company for demonstrating the video system. When the vehicle was no longer needed Mr. Gecsi donated the vehicle and the video system to the Sheriffs Office. The value of the vehicle and video system is estimated at $15,000.00.
The vehicle, originally white in color, has been painted black and detailed with Sheriffs Office markings. The cost of the painting, markings and other equipment for the vehicle has all been paid for by money raised by the reserve deputies working special projects and donations they have received. The vehicle will be used by reserve deputies working at parades, traffic control and many of the special projects they do through-out the year.
