Automated Phone Calls about your ATM Cards
FROM: Sheriff Robert L. Bratton
On Thursday, February 26, 2009, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office received phone calls from various financial institutions within the County. It appears that automated phone calls are being received by individuals, advising them that their ATM cards have been deactivated. The automated system requests that the individual push a specific number if the individual wishes to have the ATM reactivated or push another number should the individual wish to continue to have the ATM deactivated. Should the individual choose to have his ATM card reactivated, he is then advised to enter his account number.
No matter which bank the call is said to be made on behalf of about an ATM card, this constitutes fraud. DO NOT AT ANY TIME ENTER ANY ACCOUNT INFORMATION! It is strongly suggested that anyone receiving such a call contact the bank that issued the ATM card to report such a call.
If there are further questions in this regard, please contact the representative of your financial institution in Ottawa County and/or the law enforcement agency for the jurisdiction in which you reside.
