Detective Joe Vidal Honored as Deputy of the Year

    On Wednesday, May 9, 2007 Detective Joe Vidal was honored by the Port Clinton Kiwanis as being Deputy of the Year of the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office. Detective Vidal and nominated by his fellow deputies and a vote was taken at the Annual Awards Banquet in April.

    Detective Vidal began his career with the Sheriffs Office in 1996 as a Reserve Deputy. Shortly after he was hired as a full time deputy in the Corrections Division. While there he helped create and organize the Inmate Work Program which saves Ottawa County taxpayers about $100,000.00 per year. In January of 2001 Detective Vidal was promoted to the patrol division where he later became a 'K-9' handler. In March of 2005 Detective Vidal was promoted again to his current position in the Detective Bureau. As a detective he is responsible for the investigation of major criminal cases and works closely with the Ottawa County Prosecutors Office. Detective Vidal has handled a number of high profile cases in the past year, including large thefts, robberies and an internet pornography case.

    During the ceremony on Wednesday Detective Vidal was presented a trophy from the Kiwanis and Sheriff Bratton presented him with a gold watch from the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association.
