Brothers Caught After Break-In

Two Ottawa County men were caught Friday afternoon after they were discovered breaking into a garage on Lakeshore Drive in Erie Township.

On Friday, December 23, 2005 at 12:40PM the caretaker of the property at 6170 Lakeshore Drive observed a pick-up truck sitting in the driveway. The residence is vacant at this time. The caretaker, Bob Wilbur of Port Clinton, pulled into the driveway and observed two males exiting the garage of the residence. The two males got into the truck and headed east on State Route 2. The caretaker began following the truck along county and township roads in Carroll Township, and as he did, he called the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and kept dispatchers up to date on their location.

Ottawa County Sheriff dispatchers contacted Carroll Township Police Department to assist with the call. Chief Jody Hatfield was able to get behind the vehicle and stopped the truck at the intersection of Genzman and Luetz Road. The caretaker, who had followed the truck until police stopped it, identified a table saw, shelving and three ceramic crocks that had been taken from the garage.

The two males admitted taking items from the garage to sell as scrap for money.

The two males have been booked into the Ottawa County Detention Facility. Each were charged with Breaking and Entering, a felony of the 5th degree.

Also assisting in the arrest was Agent Don St. Clair of the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office.

Michael A. Bodi, age 41, 2029 East State Road, Port Clinton, Ohio

Both will be held in the Ottawa County Detention Facility pending their first court appearance in the Ottawa County Municipal Court.
