On Saturday, September 17, 2005, at approximately 12:35 PM, while on routine patrol in the area of Bier and Behlman Roads and running radar, Deputy Jim Hanney locked in an approaching vehicle at 72 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. Deputy Hanney turned his vehicle and attempted to initiate a stop, but the vehicle did not stop. At this time pursuit was called out, and area law enforcement assisted.
After a 22-mile pursuit on country roads along Route 2, the pursuit ended in front of the Port Clinton City Police Department. The subject was apprehended at that point with minor resistance. A rear window on a Sheriff’s cruiser was damaged. The subject was then secured and placed in a vehicle.
During the pursuit, the Communications Center technicians advised all units in pursuit that the vehicle had been stolen, and the defendant attempted to hit a police officer from Carroll Township on several occasions. This was therefore a felony.
The individual that was apprehended was Jeffrey Kiser, 21 years of age. Some time ago he lived in this area. However, at this time he gave an address of 2206 Sickle Road, Indianapolis, Indiana. The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen, and the subject does not have a valid operator’s license. Various criminal charges will be filed, and the subject is being held at the Ottawa County Detention Facility.
Those agencies that assisted in this pursuit included the Ohio State Highway Patrol Post 22, Carroll Township Police Department, Port Clinton City Police Department, and the Ottawa County Road Patrol and the Marine Patrol. The time on the pursuit was 12:35 PM when initiated, and the time in custody was recorded as 12:56 PM. No officers were hurt, and the defendant was not injured. Charges will include stolen auto, no operator’s license, numerous traffic violations, and it was also learned that there is an active warrant out of Seneca County for this individual.
