DEPUTY JOSE VIDAL PROMOTED TO DETECTIVE BUREAU

Ottawa County Sheriff Robert L. Bratton, Chief Deputy Randy Riedmaier and Captain Stephen Levorchick are pleased to announce that Deputy Jose Vidal has been promoted to the detective bureau.

Deputy Vidal, age 29, began his career with the Sheriffs Office in July of 1996 when he became a Sheriffs Office Reserve Deputy. In August of 1997 when he was hired as a corrections officer. In 1999 he became the first deputy assigned to the Inmate Work Program. In that position he helped develop, organize and manage the program that has saved taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars by using inmates to do work at various county facilities. His efforts in that position became a model for other counties to follow.  In January of 2001 Deputy Vidal was promoted to the patrol division and in November of 2002 he became the Canine Handler for the Sheriffs Office. Deputy Vidal and his partner, ‘Aron’, have continued in that position to the present time.

Deputy Vidal helped co-ordinate the purchase and placement of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) for use in the corrections and patrol divisions, and he is on the Sheriffs Grant Committee which has helped secure thousands of dollars towards the purchase of equipment. He has also helped develop and provide curriculum, known as the 'Harms Way Program', to juveniles who have been court ordered to complete remedial instruction after having received two or more moving traffic violation, and works closely with the juvenile probation department.

Deputy Vidal will soon begin a training program with Chief Deputy Riedmaier and Captain Levorchick. When complete he will be responsible for the investigation of major criminal offenses that occur in Ottawa County.

Deputy Vidal, his wife Pamela, and their two children live in the Oak Harbor area.
